Back on Track is pleased to welcome Ryan Gilliman to the team as an Occupational Health Consultant and Physiotherapist.

Ryan brings over 10 years experience in injury management and prevention across a variety of settings and industries. He has worked in more than 30 employer-based onsite physiotherapy clinics whilst concurrently consulting in occupational health and safety across a broad range of industries including mining, oil and gas, aviation, manufacturing, transport and logistics, corporate, various government sectors and insurers. He is particularly passionate about injury prevention and early intervention initiatives and gains satisfaction delivering results for business whilst providing an exceptional level of service and care for workers. He has witnessed return on investment in the health of a workforce delivering more than just cost savings for business but importantly improvement in safety culture and productivity which flow on to wider societal and community benefits.

Ryan has spent the past few years working in house for a national specialist healthcare provider in their work health safety team focusing on injury management and prevention initiatives. He introduced and drove a novel early intervention program as part of a complete overhaul of their injury management and return to work policies, procedures and processes. This included as a centre piece for engagement and cultural change developing and leading a psycho socially focused and risk based approach to hazardous manual tasks training. Key results 18 months following the introduction of this program:

  • 50% reduction in active workcover claims nationally
  • In one state (highest proportion of claims) reduction in claim related lost time days from 300 to less than 10, and claims costs by 70%
  • New claims reduced by 36% nationally and reversed gradual increasing year on year trend
  • Claims costs nationally reduced over 70%
  • Significant reduction in manual handling and particularly patient handling related injuries and incidents
  • Average 4.7/5 star reviews of manual handling training from over 100 staff survey responses
  • Introduced lead indicator metrics for WHS board reporting

Ryan considers himself a ‘hands on’ all rounder and has also managed to re build his house an an owner builder, is a father to two beautiful girls, volunteer as a surf life saver and keeps fit and challenged physically by competing in the occasional 24 hour adventure race!
